Hotel Filser Füssen – For Allgäu explorers

The hotel in Füssen is run with a lot of heart and dedication, now in its fourth generation. Today there are two women — mother, Karin Thanner and daughter, Andrea Horn — who run the traditional hotel with concentrated female power and passion. You can feel their love for the Allgäu and the people they welcome there in every detail. The two hosts are proud of their small, cosy hotel and their team of long-standing employees, who form the heart of the hotel. Together they create a familiar atmosphere in which every guest immediately feels at home.

Oberstdorf is home to another family jewel, which has also been in the family for over 70 years. Here, Andreas' brother Michael runs the four-star hotel with the same passion and love of hospitality.

The royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau of the fairytale king Ludwig II in Schwangau are only 10 minutes by car from our hotel in Füssen.

Stay away from the crowds of tourists and still experience the Allgäu highlights within a short distance. For example, the Museum of the Bavarian Kings directly below the castles, which outlines the history of the Bavarian royal family on an impressive area.

And if you want to relax, make a detour to the royal "Kristalltherme", which is also located in Schwangau and offers a marvellous view of the royal castles from the sauna and bathing area.

What excursion destinations are there in Füssen and the Allgäu? The highlight of the region is of course Neuschwanstein Castle—world-famous for its location and unmistakable architectural style. There are also numerous castles and palaces, such as Hohenschwangau Castle or the castle ruins of Hohenfrey and Eisenberg, which are well worth a visit.

Historic towns such as Füssen or Kempten are within easy reach and offer numerous cultural attractions with museums (e.g. the Museum of the Bavarian Kings, the Museum of the City of Füssen, Art hall Kempten, showroom “Erasmuskapelle" etc.) and exhibitions.

The Roman villa on the Tegelberg or the Cambodunum archaeological site are sure to delight those interested in history. And for sports enthusiasts, there are a number of cycling and hiking trails, including summit experiences along the edge of the Alps.

Füssen combines many holiday wishes. On the one hand, the town is located on the edge of the Alps, right at the foot of the mighty Säuling rock mountain. And thus at the gateway to the wonderful world of sports with hiking, cycling, climbing, and nature experiences. On the other hand, Füssen is located directly on Lake Forggensee and therefore offers numerous water sports options for your holiday.

As a former Roman town, Füssen can also look back on a long history and offers many sights worth seeing with monasteries, castles, palaces, and museums. With its Mediterranean flair, Füssen is also a pretty and lively old town that is a pleasure to stroll through and watch the hustle and bustle over an iced coffee.

Take advantage of our in-house bike hire (including e-bikes) and explore the varied Allgäu landscape around our Hotel Filser. You can also explore the breathtaking landscape on foot. Numerous mountain tours through the Allgäu mountains and, of course, our mountain railways in the surrounding area will take you to the summits. On the way there are huts and mountain pastures that offer hearty, fresh and local dishes in keeping with Allgäu tradition.

In winter, of course, there are just as many opportunities to actively enjoy the magnificent Alpine foothills: Alpine skiing in the region's ski areas, cross-country skiing (e.g. in Schwangau below the royal castles), snowshoeing, ice skating on the natural lakes, horse-drawn sleigh rides, feeding wild animals and much more!
